ALPHA TEC, LLC: Sr. design drafter     Western USA (various dates)

Operations at Alpha Tec address the CAD requirements of industry, commercial, and small businesses, which I attend to personally.  My daily functions may include: working from red-lines/sketch/jpgs; drawing update and revision; file/print/plot management; meetings and task management; print set delivery.  Focus: shop drawings; equipment install diagrams; job estimation; site inspection; as-built/demo details; BIM; GIS; PI&D; grading details; elec/arch/civil/struc/mech/piping details; cable tray layout; city permit sets; interconnect diagrams; floor plans; landscape details; and 3D prototyping.  I also produce excellent dynamic and attributed blocks designed to suit special requirements.

GAS TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS INC: GIS mapper/AutoCAD civil drafterCalifornia 6/15 – 10/15

Duties: Creating dynamic elements of gas utility pipelines, roadway, cogo pts, annotated/layered views and reports relevant to alignment construction and removal.  File drawings contained internally linked entities, from ESRI ArcGIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D, uniting them with a database to create various Excel tables and BIM information.  Powerful CAD tools allowed me to assist engineers at all levels of project development. Assembling the myriad utility, construction, and data elements commands great attention to detail and superior quality work.

SOUTHWEST GAS CORPORATION: Sr. GIS mapper/AutoCAD drafter     Nevada 2/14 – 8/14

ArcGIS, AutoMap, and FieldSmart tools facilitated the daily mapping routine.  I was tasked to create/update various utility record types: metadata, CAD blocks, attributes, data entry.  Accuracy and consistency of all records are thus ensured by carefully comparing all three databases relative to each service and/or construction.  Recording elements of service required accounting of: material type/size; spatial orientation; measured length; install date; metadata.  My duties directly contributed to operational efficiency and ensuring the public safety.

LOCKHEED-MARTIN CORPORATION: Sr. design drafter    Colorado 5/12 – 3/13

The Integrated Space Communications division required my expert AutoCAD drafting and instruction skills: utilizing 2D/3D talents to the fullest.  By improving the overall quality of CAD deliverables, our military and intelligence community received more concise and educated overview in required VIDs (diagrams).  As I dictated and implemented higher quality drafting standards, and modernized our team too, we evolved to function as a greater efficacious and responsive unit.  Using AutoCAD, I applied ECO changes to drawings and spreadsheets: adding these into the PDM cycle; compiled various engineering and product data for new drawings; collated record types in operational directories for engineering review.  CAD dwg quality was entirely at my discretion: my approach to production is aggressive and thorough.

NEVADA ENERGY CORPORATION: Sr. GIS mapper/CAD operator      Nevada 5/11 – 1/12

In serving this utility firm, I utilized a trio of tools which included GIS mapping plus AutoMap, and SKOTI data management system. Focus: updating gas and electric service lines and civil details; material data; accounting for actual physical details and record discrepancies; pipe dimensions and using appropriate fittings; abandoned service runs (type/location/depth); cross-referencing records from the last 112 years. Finally, with relevant comparisons and measurements recorded, modifications to electronic drawings and PDM system were input hourly.

CLICK-BOND MANUFACTURING INCORPORATED: Sr. mechanical drafter       Nevada 8/10 – 1/11

This manufacturer of customized surface mount components (aeronautical and military) recruited me to provide full-time, senior-level 2D drafting as well as complex 3D modeling and CAD instruction.  Technical data related to my daily projects is received in several forms: gleaned from real parts, existing drawings, sketches, mfg printout, ECNs, solid models, etc.  My goal is the completion of two composite drawings per part (1-sales; 1-mfg), consisting of highly dimensioned orthographic projections and section views, employing ANSI standards.  Drawings with 3D solids (orthographic viewports using soldraw/solview) are permanent records for ISO inspectors and customers.  Molds are cut from 3D solids and customers peruse drawings regarding requirements for precision hi-tech hardware.

U.S. NAVAL & SPACE WARFARE COMMAND (SPAWAR): Sr. design drafter S.Carolina 5/09 – 9/09

As senior design drafter, 33% of my responsibility focused on improving CAD utilization and management.  With teams of IT and naval engineers, I created and assembled technical data, producing files pertaining to these: secured shipboard storage; equip interconnect; physical ship features; electronics system design and management elements; various test data; security and intrusion monitoring (intranet defense); ship LAN interconnects.  My CAD tasking involved regular conferencing with Navy engineers and IT support, to rapidly expedite and distribute file drawing modifications and ECO bulletins.  Many changes were accompanied by creating a unique presentation interface.

HONEYWELL AEROSPACE INTERNATIONAL: Sr. design drafter       Arizona 2/06 – 2/09

During this prestigious assignment, I was solely responsible for producing diverse CAD drawings of electronics data; prototype modeling; P&IDs; and electro-mechanical details for 18 STE section engineers (also, providing AutoCAD instruction to same).  Layout of 2D flowcharts and isometrics dominated my daily tasking.  Focus: stress test fixtures/hardware; equipment rack elevations; extensive schematics; PCB & PWA layout; 3D/isometric/exploded detail diagrams; fabrication cut-sheets; cabling/interconnect diagrams; and routinely consulting with project authors regarding drawing improvement/presentation.  Often, I would access the network PDM system to retrieve or store file drawings, PDFs, and ECO amendments.  Also, I constructed our contemporary attributed titleblocks and a library of hundreds of blocks/symbols, approved for site-wide use, and occasionally I was recruited to extend design assistance to projects.  1 of 2

MID-STATE PRECAST CONSTRUCTION: Sr. design drafter California 6/05 – 12/05

While participating in this elaborate California State construction contract, I committed to instructing entry-level CAD operators as well as producing construction details of structural steel and concrete.  Modular bulkheads of structural concrete required MEP and rebar blueprints/details to assist our engineers, prefab, and on-site crews: facilitating rapid, continuous production.  With my expert assistance in tutoring CAD and improving drafting and process methodology, a small, semi-skilled crew was able to complete the contract on-time and within budget.  Assisting persons of varied skill levels presented entertaining challenges during this time constrained project.

TELEDYNE ELECTRONICS CORPORATION: Sr. drafter   California 4/04 – 4/05

This position was quite similar to that of the Honeywell Aerospace entry, in drafting requirements, namely: P&IDs; electro-mechanical details; isometric/exploded parts drawings: these dominated my workload.  In examining new drawings, I might then assist in resolving issues with cabling, mounting hardware or test equipment assembly.  Teledyne project concerns were highly sensitive (aircraft ejection seats) so, observance of crucial details in ECOs and maintaining drawing integrity was an extreme concern.  Weekly conferences regarding project status were normal, as was creating new, versatile attributed CAD blocks and template drawings; monitoring plotted drawing sets.

U.S. NAVY NFELC and CONSTRUCTION BATTALION: Sr. design drafter    California 1/03 – 1/04

Assisting the NFELC tested all aspects of my skillset across a wide scope of projects, while introducing new CAD standards; plotter management; CAD tutoring.  My daily focus: ECOs; PDM tasks; P&IDs; facility fire and security details; structural steel and concrete forms; space management; civil/arch/mooring details; truck/train depot changes; load calculations; sprinkler piping.  My achievements were rewarded with a great, personal job highlight: the privilege to model a 3D prototype of a radical new 2000lb ship anchor, one now in service!

CUSTOM METAL & AIR CONDITIONING: Sr. design drafter California 8/01 – 12/02

As the lone AutoCAD and IntelliCAD drafter for this HVAC contractor, I produced the complete 3-storey Moorpark City College Learning Resource & Telecom Center, making many 2D and isometric details.  My duties: making 3D models; cut-sheets; RFIs; duct routes; seismic bracing; structural steel; MEP penetrations; water and fire sprinkler piping; security hardware and wiring; linking IntelliCAD data to in-house cutting laser.  The use of 3D solids revealed all collision incidents, prompting me to identify and release conflict avoidance and resolution schemes to supervisors/crews.  My project highlight is the elaborate model of the 3-storey building, all in 3D solid using two CAD programs.

CROWN PHOTO SYSTEMS: Sr. drafter/graphic designer             Washington 9/00 – 4/01

In this position with CPS, I met and managed a wide range of multi-faceted challenges applicable to detailed mechanical drafting: exercising my talents to their capacity.  My focus was small, intricate parts for after-market camera accessories: gears, shafts, pulleys, levers, collars, ejector pins, spring-arms, etc.  As well as department management, 3D solid modeling, and consumer focused drawing details, the creation of various presentation graphics, blueprints, and corporate documentation fell under my jurisdiction.  I created highly detailed 2D/3D models for interference tolerancing inspection, and exploded view and isometric assembly drawings of devices and machines that CPS manufactured, including schematics and BOMs.  Also, I developed the entire new CAD block library: adding to it daily.

E.C.S. ENGINEERING, and ELCON ASSOCIATES (2 competing firms): Sr. drafter             Washington 6/98 – 4/00

As a daily function I assisted 3-person crews in providing electrical construction details.  Routine drafting requirements: plan/elev/isometric detail installation views of transformers; interconnect diagrams; power distribution; fire and security details; schematics; fiber-optic cable vaults; penetration arrays; conduit/cable tray routes; switchbox details.  Clients: SeaTac Airport, Port of Seattle, East/Cent WA Univ, Seattle City Light, Wash DOT.  At ECS, I also instructed new graduate students of AutoCAD in production drafting techniques and standardization.
